  • A waveguide probe antenna, also called a waveguide horn antenna or simply a waveguide antenna, is an antenna that works within a waveguide structure. A waveguide is a hollow metal tube that guides and confines electromagnetic waves, typically in the microwave or millimeter wave frequency range. Waveguide probe antennas are typically designed to sample the radiated electromagnetic field from the antenna under test with minimal disturbance to the incident field. . They are commonly used for near-field measurements of test antenna structures.

The frequency of a waveguide antenna is also limited by the size of the waveguide inside the antenna as well as the actual size of the antenna. In some cases, such as broadband antennas with a coaxial interface, the frequency range is limited by the antenna and coaxial interface design. Typically, in addition to waveguide antennas with a coaxial interface, waveguide antennas also have the advantages of waveguide interconnects such as high power handling, enhanced shielding, and low loss.

Waveguide Interface: The waveguide probe antenna is specifically designed to interface with waveguide systems. They have a specific shape and size to match the size and operating frequency of the waveguide, ensuring efficient transmission and reception of electromagnetic waves.
